Midwest Culturally Inclusive Conference (MCIC)

Call for Submissions

Submission Deadline: May 25, 2012

The theme of the 2012 Midwest Culturally Inclusive Conference is “Creating the change we want to see in the world: Sharing our knowledge, truth, tools, and best practices.”  Proposals related to any aspect of diversity and inclusion can be submitted; however, we are especially interested in receiving proposals related to culturally relevant pedagogy, immigration, cultural norms and practices, health care, socioeconomics and sexual orientation in PK-12 schools, post-secondary institutions, businesses, and communities.

A complete proposal consists of a cover sheet and a one-two paragraph abstract.

Proposals may be related to, but are not limited to the following 5 tracks:

  1. Art: Documentaries, films, music, poetry, and other forms of art media
  2. Business: Social responsibility, entrepreneurship, business development in rural communities, micro financing, and policy changes.
  3. Community/Civic: Health care, immigration, diversity in rural communities, poverty, and socioeconomic disparities.
  4. PK-12 schools: Bullying, culturally relevant pedagogy, LGBTQ, disproportionality, ELLs, immigration, effective teaching methods and poverty.
  5. Post-secondary institutions: Hate crimes, nontraditional students, underrepresented students, and students with disabilities

Decisions on all proposals will be made in June.
